21세기 정보화 시대를 맞이하여 디스플레이의 중요성은 더욱 강조되고 있습니다.  전자.정보 산업의 시대적 변화에 따라 경희대학교 국제캠퍼스(수원)의 디스플레이 재료 및 부품 관련 연구를 수행하는 교수들은 산업체와 정부에서 요구하는 평판 디스플레이 소재의 연구 개발에 많은 노력을 기울여 왔습니다.  이러한 연구 활동의 결실로서 2002년 11월부터 경기도에서 지원하는 지역협력연구센터(GRRC)인 “영상정보소재기술연구센터”를 유치하여 디스플레이 산학 협동의 지역 중심센터로써 역할을 수행하고 있습니다.

    본 연구센터의 설립취지는 산학협력 연구를 위한 기술, 장비, 정보 지원의 인프라를 구축함으로써, 세계 제일의 국내 디스플레이 산업 발전을 밑받침 하는 부품.소재 산업의 기술 경쟁력을 강화하고 디스플레이 관련 지역 기업을 육성 발전시키는데 있습니다.  센터 설립 후 산.학.연을 연계한 정보 공유의 기술 네트워크를 구성하고 디스플레이 소재 평가 장비를 센터 내에 설치하는 등 센터의 기초 인프라 구축을 계획대로 진행하고 있습니다.  이와 더불어 2004년 12월에 산업자원부 지원의 “디스플레이 부품.소재 RIC”를 유치하여 연구개발 중심의 GRRC에 장비지원 중심의 TIC 사업이 시너지 효과를 나타내는 디스플레이 부품.소재 분야의 핵심적인 산학협력 센터로써 성장할 수 있는 기틀을 마련하였습니다. 

     “영상정보소재기술연구센터”에서는 디스플레이 관련 업체, 연구소, 대학 등을 연계하는 기술, 정보, 인적 네트워크를 구축하여 국내 디스플레이 부품.소재 산업의 경쟁력 강화와 지속적인 발전에 기여하고자 합니다.  경기도 지역의 디스플레이 관련 기업 발전과 더불어 “영상정보소재기술연구센터”도 같이 성장을 하고자 합니다.   여러분의 많은 참여와 관심을 부탁 드립니다.  

    Display materials are a vital part of 21st century information technology, which enable better human interface with electronic devices. The demand for research and development of advanced materials for flexible displays is ever increasing in Korea as well as around the world. Since its inception in November of 2002, Materials Research Center for Information Display, one of the Gyeonggi Regional Research Centers of Gyeonggi Province, has been a springboard for innovative materials science and engineering research for information display technology here at Kyung Hee University, Suwon, Korea. The center’s professors and scientists conduct world-leading research to explore advanced materials and technologies for applications in information display industry.

      MRCID is designed to promote interdisciplinary scholarship among faculty, facilitate industrial partnerships, encourage graduate education, and provide a mechanism for major cooperative research funding for the study of advanced materials for applications in information display industry. Furthermore, Technology Innovation Center – Components and Materials for Information Display was established in December of 2004 here at Kyung Hee University. We hope that MRCID - the center for research and development, with the newly formed TIC-CAMID which focuses on the providing a central multi-user research facility, will have the synergic effect for the study of advanced materials for applications in information display industry.
